St. Martin's goose in Hamburg? Forget the goose. Duck in December.

On 11 November Hamburg celebrates the goose. Three weeks later we celebrate the duck: four courses, carved at the table at Prime Duck, at the pop-up restaurant in HafenCity.

From St. Martin's Day to the first duck

  1. St. Martin's Day

Lanterns, goose, the whole of Hamburg cackles.

  2. First duck

    Duckman opens in HafenCity.

  3. Last duck

The last duck, then Christmas can come.

35 days to go until the first duck.

St. Martin's goose in Hamburg, in short

  1. The legend

    The geese told on him.

Martin didn't want to become a bishop and hid in a goose shed. Ever since, geese have landed on the plate on 11 November. Their own fault.

  2. The custom

    The last feast.

In the old days the fast until Christmas began after St. Martin's Day. Today, for many, the goose is simply the first roast of the season.

  3. Our twist

    We turn it around.

At our place the eating starts in December, with the duck: four courses, 23 nights, and nobody stands at the oven for three hours.
